St Joseph’s teaches the National Curriculum informed by the ‘White Rose Small Steps Mastery Scheme of Work’. This scheme uses whole class, mastery teaching and moves the children on in very small steps so that all children can achieve their age-related expectations.

The understanding of Mastery concepts is developed using concrete resources, pictorial representations and abstract representations. Children are encouraged to make small steps, to make links with what they already know, to use mathematical vocabulary when discussing their learning and understanding, to use variation and fluency to cement and practice their learning and then to reason with their knowledge to achieve greater depth within a concept rather than moving on to new material before full understanding is reached.

June is the National Multiplication Table Check for Children in Year 4. Please see the attached brochure for more information.

To help prepare your child for the Multiplication check, we recommend that they log on to Times Tables Rock Stars (ttrockstars.com) . Each child from Year 2 upwards will have a log in for this website which offers lots of interactive games that will help your child learn their times tables.
